The Word du Jour

Last year, Eli was so tiny and so sweet. He would coo and laugh and grin--ok, so maybe it was just gas, but it was stinking cute. He would snuggle for long periods of time. He was just so sweet.

Now we have big boy Eli--still stinking cute, still sweet, will still snuggle (though not for nearly as long). He's busy. He's silly. He's FUN. I mean, he's really, really fun. He makes us laugh all the time.

He's become so very verbal. Eli talks a lot.
* "What's the cow say?" "Moo."
*He'll take off his socks and say, "Tickle, tickle feet." It's clear, very clear.
*"blah, blah, blah" Seriously.
*Today he roamed the house looking for "Dad-Cott."
*I'm "MaMaMa" or "Tace."
*"Idiot" was the leading favorite for awhile. I think we may have broken him of that one.
*"Lovu"
*"Chimagongong" Translation--Chicken McNugget
*"No!"
*"Book"
*"Are you ready to get out of the tub yet?" Head shook no. "Are you having too much fun?" "Yeah."

There are many more words and combinations, but that's not my point today. Those listed are the leading words/combos of most days. The word of the day today is "dangit." I didn't really think about using that much--it's not THAT bad. Then I heard my one-year-old say it repeatedly today. It's not so nice coming from that little mouth.

#1--Eli reached for my Naked juice, and I handed him his sippy cup. "Dangit!" Then, bottoms up.

#2--I handed Eli a ravioli when he wanted corn. "Dangit."

#3--Eli shot water in his face with a tub toy. "Dangit!"

#4--I let Eli's bath water out. "Dangit!"

#5--I laid Eli down to change his pants. "Dangit."

"Dangit" has been the leading response today--along with "Yeah" and "No," but those are leaders most days so they don't count. He has said "dangit" five times TODAY that I can remember. That will simply never do. So, we're going to have to do something to change it. It is, afterall, my fault that that sweet little mouth is uttering those strong words (or for him, strong word) of disappointment.

Any good suggestions for what the mama of a monkey-see, monkey-do boy can say to replace her standard dangit?

Lingering thought: I LOVE being a mommy. I LOVE being home with my baby during the day. I'm countitng the days until summer...then until the day I get to stay home and be wife & mommy all day every day.
